Ancient trees are getting the spotlight!

Our recent work on Physiological mechanisms underlying extreme longevity in mountain pine trees recently published in Plant Physiology is having tremendous impact and was spotted in El País journal and New Scientist, among other media.

Ot Pasques with an ancient pine treeThe work performed by Ot Pasques and Prof. Sergi Munné-Bosch from the ANTIOX group focuses on the ability of mountain pune trees to adapt to stress and attain extreme longevity (> 700 years). The research included the analysis of more than 1.300 pine trees (Pinus uncinata) at the Pyrenees National Park in Catalonia to depict important traits such as twisted shapes resulting from a great plasticity that could allow extreme longevity in these trees.
